In 2001 the United Nations celebrated the Year of Dialogue Among Civilizations. To commemorate the occasion the UN office in Geneva hosted a series of lectures and conferences to broaden the scope of cultural dialogue. The presentations –a selection of which are reproduced in this publication—emphasized the need for communication and interaction across cultures. Written by authors from several continents, the texts of the lectures highlight the richness, variety, and vibrancy of our cultures. Also included are texts that were presented in French and Spanish.
