Given the very positive response from States to the Millennium Summit Treaty Event in September 2000, it was decided to hold a similar event annually, although on a smaller scale. Accordingly, a treaty signature, ratification, accession event was held to coincide with the United Nations Special Session on Children. There were 23 treaties relating to the advancement of the rights of women and children, underlining the significant role of the multilateral treaty framework in advancing these rights, selected for special attention. This publication summarizes the objectives and key provisions of the 23 treaties highlighted for this treaty event.
