In the European integration process, regional policies have assumed greater prominence with notable “convergence” success between countries. The expansion o f the European Union in 2004, along with the critical evaluation made of the project’s accumulated experience has led to the “new Cohesion Policy” for 2007-2013. The study suggests that the background and current prospects of such policies within the EU provide potential lessons for Latin America and the Caribbean.
