Human Security Now

Protecting and Empowering People

Format *
Human security means protecting vital freedoms. It means protecting people exposed to threats and dangerous situations, while building on their strengths and aspirations. In today’s world, people’s security is interlinked. The same could be said about conflict and deprivation. This report of the Commission on Human Security examines six areas related to conflict and poverty in which manifestations of human insecurity are considered critical and pervasive. These areas are: protecting people in violent conflict, protecting and empowering people on the move, protecting and empowering people in post-conflict situations. The report draws conclusions aimed at advancing human security and calls for the participation of the public, the private sector, and civil society actors.
