Economics and Environment in the Former Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia

Format *
This report considers the interaction between the national economy and the environment in the former Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia. It concludes that the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the drying up of the Aral Sea and desertification of the surrounding areas compounded by unsatisfactory air quality in more than 100 industrial centres in the former Soviet Union are due to the structural deformations of the economy.
