This year's edition of the World Population Prospects provides a comprehensive and consistent set of population data for 187 countries and areas on two compact disks (CDs). In all data sets, figures for 1950-2000 are estimates and those for 2000-2050 are projections. All data sets provide, in addition to data for individual countries and areas, data on 33 country aggregates, including the world as a whole, the more and the less developed regions, the major world areas and selected additional aggregates. Disk 1, the Standard set, contains data sets in Excel 2000 and PDF format presenting the full set of indicators as well as the age and sex distributions of the population. All indicators and age distributions are presented for the four major projections variants, namely, the low, medium, high and constant-fertility variants. Disk 2 contains the extensive set of data in such areas as: age distributions, population by sex, mortality, fertility and selected indicators for the 45 countries highly affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
