UNEP Annual Report 1999

Format *
This publication discusses the work accomplished by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) during the year 1999.The report is structured on the foundation of five priority areas: environmental information, assessment and research; enhanced co-ordination of environmental conventions and development of policy instruments; fresh water; technology transfer and industry; and support to Africa. The Annual Report shows how UNEP, by working closely with governments, other United Nations organizations, the non-governmental and scientific community, the business and private sectors and the trade unions, is helping to achieve real and measurable improvements in the capacity of the Earth's natural resource base to support a decent quality of life for all. The Report alerts that environmental challenges of the next quarter-century will become even more complex as the world's growing human population places ever-greater demands on the Earth 's natural resources.
