Economic Report on Africa

Africa’s growth plummeted during its ‘lost decades’ of the 1980s and 1990s while unemployment soared, and production and export bases became more concentrated. Africa boasts significant human and natural resources that can be used to promote industrialization and structural economic transformation through value-addition strategies in all sectors. This publication examines key constraints and opportunities for African countries to make the most of their commodities by adding value through linkage development. It also addresses how African countries can design and implement policies to promote value addition and economic transformation, and reduce their dependence on producing and exporting unprocessed commodities.

Energy Statistics Pocketbook

The Energy Statistics Pocketbook presents a compilation of energy statistics designed to highlight the availability of data on various aspects of energy production, transformation and use and its linkages to other key statistics, covering the whole world from 1990 to the last year available. It distinguishes itself from the other three UNSD energy statistics annual data publications (Energy Statistics Yearbook, Energy Balances, and Electricity Profiles) in that it highlights key indicators and uses different visualizations (such as maps and charts) to also show developments, dependencies and distributions in a way that standard data tables cannot convey. Energy is central to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement on climate change, and sound energy statistics is the basis for the reliable measurement of progress, thereby assisting the formulation of policy measures to achieve international and national sustainable development goals. The information in this publication is primarily based on the energy data collection carried out by the Energy Statistics Section of the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD).

Energy Statistics Yearbook / Annuaire des Statistiques de L'energie (Ser. J)

The energy statistics activities by the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) comprise of: Collection and dissemination of international energy statistics, including basic data as well as aggregated tables, energy balances and electricity profiles; Methodological work; Technical co-operation and coordination. UNSD collects energy statistics from more than 190 countries and updates and maintains the Energy Statistics Database. The statistics cover production, trade, transformation and final consumption (end-use) for a range of primary and secondary energy products derived from conventional and non-conventional or renewable energy sources.
