Asia-Pacific Population Journal

For over two decades, the Asia-Pacific Population Journal (APPJ) has been taking the pulse of population and social issues unfolding in the region. Published by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), APPJ brings out high quality, evidence-based and forward-looking articles relevant for population policies and programmes in Asia and the Pacific. Prominent population experts, award-winning demographers, as well as lesser known researchers have been contributing articles, documenting over the years the evolution of thinking in this important sphere.

Bulletin on Population and Vital Statistics in the Arab Region

The Bulletin on Population and Vital Statistics in the ESCWA Region presents data on population, fertility, mortality, marriages and divorces compiled from a number of national sources, including surveys, censuses and vital registration systems. The objective of this bulletin is to encourage countries to produce and disseminate high quality data on population and vital statistics, which is much needed for better planning. It is also meant to meet the needs of data users, especially researchers, academics and others working in the fields of population, reproductive health and development; it provides them with a thorough and comprehensive picture on population growth and its dynamics.


Demographic Yearbook (Ser. R)

The United Nations Demographic Yearbook collects, compiles and disseminates official statistics on a wide range of topics. Data have been collected from national statistical authorities since 1948 through a set of questionnaires dispatched annually by the United Nations Statistics Division to over 230 national statistical offices. The Demographic Yearbook disseminates statistics on population size and composition, births, deaths, marriage and divorce on an annual basis. Demographic Yearbook special topics issues cover a wide range of additional topics including economic activity, educational attainment, household characteristics, housing, ethnicity and language, among others.

Energy Balances and Electricity Profiles / Bilans Energtiques et Profils du Secteur de Llectricit (Ser. W)

This series is a source of overall consumption statistics of energy commodities in all sectors and provides detailed information on production, trade and consumption of electricity, net installed capacity and thermal power plant input and efficiency for selected countries. It provides energy balances for a specific number of developing countries, showing production, trade, conversion and consumption in energy units for all energy products. It also contains electricity profiles for a specific number of countries, providing detailed information on production, trade and consumption of electricity, net installed capacity and thermal power plant input for selected developing and developed countries.

ESCWA Series on Water Development

This series aims to enhance the application of integrated water resources management (IWRM) concepts in the region, with the explicit objectives to: (a) provide regional water practitioners and decision makers with concise, but comprehensive reports on specific topics related to the sustainable management of available water resources; (b) establish an authoritative basis for managing the available resources; and (c) secure potential input of updated information and data on the ESCWA region to the United Nations WWDR series.

Latin America and the Caribbean Demographic Observatory / Observatorio Demográfico América Latina y el Caribe

Demographic Observatory presents estimates and projections of the population of the 20 countries of Latin America, for the period 1950-2100. Demographic Observatory follows a standard format containing information that is updated annually and is prepared by CELADE-Population Division of ECLAC. 


State of World Population

The State of World Population is an annual report published by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). Each edition covers and analyses developments and trends in world population and demographics, as well as shedding a light on specific regions, countries and population groups and the unique challenges they face.

Statistical papers - United Nations (Ser. A), Population and vital statistics report

The Population and Vital Statistics Report series presents data for countries or areas on population size (total, male, and female) from the latest available census, estimated total population size for the later available year, and the number and rate of vital events (live births, deaths, and infant deaths) for the latest available year within the past 15 years. These data are presented as reported by national statistical authorities to the Demographic Yearbook of the Statistics Division of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs.

The United Nations World Water Development Report

These reports annually focus on multiple strategic water issues. They aim to provide decision-makers with tools to implement sustainable use of our water resources. They include various regional aspects, hotspots, examples and stories, which make them relevant to a broad range of readers in various regions of the world. The reports were originally triennial and the first four editions were launched in conjunction with the World Water Forum in 2003, 2006, 2009 and 2012. Over time, the reports became increasingly facts-based and acquired a more specific thematic focus.
