Acts and Documents Concerning the Organization of the Court/Actes et documents relatifs à l'organisation de la Cour
This series consists of the International Court of Justice's various basic documents as adopted and amended since its creation. Seven bilingual editions (English and French) have been published since 1946, the latest being in 2021. They include the Charter of the United Nations, the Statute of the International Court of Justice, the Rules of Court, the Practice Directions, the Resolution concerning the Internal Judicial Practice of the Court and a number of other texts. These volumes also include exhaustive indexes in both the official languages of the Court.
Bibliography of the International Court of Justice/Bibliographie de la Cour Internationale de Justice
The Registry of the Court usually prepares a bibliography of work and documents that relate to the institution and that were collected during the previous year. Bibliographies Nos. 1-18 formed Chapter IX of the Yearbook and the Annuaire up to the 1963-1964 edition. Subsequent bibliographies were issued as separate fascicles between 1964 and 2003. Starting with Bibliography No. 58, they are published digitally. Le greffe de la Cour prépare généralement une bibliographie des travaux et documents relatifs à l'institution et qui ont été rassemblés au cours de l'année précédente. Les bibliographies nos 1-18 ont constitué le chapitre IX du Yearbook et de l'Annuaire jusqu'à l'édition 1963-1964. Les bibliographies suivantes ont été publiées sous forme de fascicules séparés entre 1964 et 2003. Since the establishment of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) by the UN Security Council in 1994, a substantial volume of judicial records has been produced documenting the trial and appellate processes at the ICTR. Those processes have, over years of judicial activity, produced a new, unique and evolving jurisprudence in the field of international criminal justice. That jurisprudence has inspired a large number of legal professionals and scholars around the world to carry out research on a number of novel issues arising from prosecuting the crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes at an international level. The impact of the ICTR jurisprudence on the quest for the generation of new knowledge has been demonstrated by the global response to the compendious Special Bibliography compiled by the Legal Library.
Pleadings, Oral Arguments, Documents/Mémoires, plaidoiries et documents
Volumes in this series are published as soon as possible after the closure of each case and contain the documentation that relates to that case in its original language, which is either English or French. These are divided into three parts. Firstly, the document instituting the proceedings and the written pleadings. Secondly, the verbatim record of the oral proceedings. And thirdly, any documents submitted to the Court after the closure of the written proceedings. One or more volumes are issued for each case. Note that volumes that were released up to 31 December 1964 (Sales No. 286) are sold in cloth hardbound form whereas subsequent volumes are paperbound. Les volumes de cette série sont publiés dès que possible après la clôture de chaque affaire et contiennent la documentation relative à ladite affaire dans sa langue d'origine, soit l'anglais ou le français. Ceux-ci sont divisés en trois parties. En premier lieu, l'acte introductif d'instance et les pièces de procédure écrites. Deuxièmement, le compte rendu de la procédure orale. Et troisièmement, tout document soumis à la Cour après la clôture de la procédure écrite. Un ou plusieurs volumes sont publiés pour chaque cas. International arbitral and judicial awards are of considerable importance, for they are a "subsidiary means for the determination of the rules of law" as provided in Article 38 of the Statute of the International Court of Justice. They are also important from the point of view of the progressive development of international law, a task which Article 13 of the Charter places under the responsibility of the General Assembly of the United Nations.Prior to the publication of the United Nations Reports of International Arbitral Awards, there existed no systematic collection of such decisions. Yet the need of one had been felt for a long while by the various national and international bodies concerned with international law and by all those interested in its development. This publication is prepared by the Codification Division of the United Nations Office of Legal Affairs.
Reports of Judgments, Advisory Opinions and Orders/Recueil des arrêts, avis consultatifs et ordonnances
This series contains the reports of the decisions of the Court in both English and French. Each decision is published separately immediately after having been rendered in an unbound format. At the end of the year these separate decisions are collected in one single volume. At the beginning of each following year an analytical index is published concerning the previous year’s decisions. The collected decisions, complete with an index for each given year are sold ready bound in one or more cloth hardbound volume(s). Note that concerning decisions that relate to any particular case it will generally be necessary to refer to several volumes. Cette série contient les rapports des décisions de la Cour en anglais et en français. Chaque décision est publiée séparément et immédiatement après avoir été rendue dans un format non relié. A la fin de chaque année, ces décisions séparées sont rassemblées en un seul volume unique. Au début de chaque année suivante, un index analytique est publié concernant les décisions de l'année précédente. Les décisions recueillies, accompagnées d'un index pour chaque année donnée, sont vendues reliées en un ou plusieurs volumes reliés en tissu. This publication is issued monthly by the Treaty Section of the United Nations Office of Legal Affairs pursuant to article 13 of the UN Regulations prior to their publication in the UNTS pursuant to Article 102 of the UN Charter. It contains detailed record of treaties and related subsequent treaty actions which were registered or filed and recorded with the United Nations Secretariat on a given month. It is updated monthly. In accordance with Article 102 of the Charter and the relevant General Assembly Resolutions, every treaty and international agreement registered or filed and recorded with the Secretariat since 1946 is published in the United Nations Treaty Series. At present, the collection includes about 30,000 treaties reproduced in their authentic languages, together with translations into English and French, as necessary. / Conformément à l'article 102 de la Charte et aux résolutions pertinentes de l'Assemblée générale, tous les traités et accords internationaux enregistrés ou classés auprès du Secrétariat depuis 1946 sont publiés dans le Recueil des traités. A Yearbook is published annually in which an account is given of the work of the Court during the period ranging from 1 August of the preceding year to 31 July of the current year. This publication, previously produced in two editions, one in English (Yearbook) and one in French (Annuaire), is now published in a single bilingual volume. The Yearbooks/Annuaires were published in cloth hardbound form until 1963-1964 and have been printed paperbound since then.
