About the product

While many countries are keen to secure early operation of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), important roadblocks still stand in the way of an effective mechanism for implementation. This publication explores the issues and options involved in defining the CDM's structure, operations and project activities. Its area of coverage includes: first approaches and unanswered questions; ideas for implementation; questions of design and governance; operational and institutional challenges; equity, sustainability and solidarity concerns; outstanding issues; and defining and operationalizing the CDM. Issues and Options also addresses some special issues such as: prospects for Africa, attracting Northern private sector investment for greenhouse gas reduction in the South and forest and land use projects.
