About the product
This study reveals how the implementation of trade liberalization and related policies in the forestry sector of Tanzania have challenged the country’s ability to take advantage of the opportunities offered, and at the same time counter the negative forces of trade liberalization. The positive impacts of trade liberalization have been largely economic, whereas the negative impacts have been mainly of an environmental nature. The existing environmental policies and institutional framework of the country’s forestry sector have not been able to adequately address the negative impacts of trade liberalization policies. The study details the country’s objective to plan and implement strategies to mitigate the negative environmental impacts of liberalization, while at the same time enhance the economic benefits of the process.
