Institutionality of Gender in the State, The

New Analytical Perspectives

Format *
There has been a longstanding debate on the meaning and role of gender mechanisms. This publication examines the emergence of a new social subject, women, at the national and regional levels. It takes a look at the process whereby the institutionality of gender came to form part of the institutional agendas of the United Nations and the governments in the Latin American and Caribbean region. It also puts forward some considerations to be taken into account in drawing up the agendas of gender institutions and in devising their strategies for action.
