The Global Environment Outlook 3: Data Compendium provides an overview of national, regional, sub-regional and global statistical data sets used to prepare the United Nations Environment Programme’s (UNEP) GEO-3 report. The compendium holds data tables for environmental issues such as climate change, water stress and deforestation, as well as for a wide variety of socio-economic variables. Examples of data sets include CO2 emissions, water consumption, forest cover change, population growth, land use change and GDP development. Documentation on data sources, definitions and other parameters is also provided in the form of meta-data for each data set. Most of the tables are available for the GEO regions and sub-regions, and for the world as a whole. Where possible, the data cover the time period 1972 – 2002, the time frame of this edition of GEO. Due to space constraints, this printed compendium does not feature national statistics in most cases, nor is data for each and every year included. However, this information is provided on the CD-ROM included with this publication.
