Avoiding a Double Phase Out

Alternative Technologies to HCFCs in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning

Format *
Through the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer and its Amendments, countries have agreed to specific time tables to gradually phase out their consumption and production of ozone depleting substances. In an amendment to the Protocol in 1992, the Parties to the agreement added hydroclorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) to the list of those substances to be eventually phased out. This publication gives insight into the alternative technologies being used by companies in such countries as France, Belgium, Great Britain, Italy and Switzerland, in implementing the phase out process.
