Assistance to Small and Medium-sized Enterprises for Enhancing Their Capacity for Export Marketing

Format *
Small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have assumed an increasingly important role in most developing countries of the Asian and Pacific region, not only due to their large numbers but also because of the links between SMEs and almost every aspect of the economy. However, SMEs in most Asian and Pacific countries still encounter a number of inherent constraints and weaknesses. This publication identifies ways and means of supporting and further spreading the development dynamism being experienced in the region. It addresses such problems as: the lack of market information and commercial intelligence; inadequate attention to market research and promotion; and limited or no linkages with specialized trading companies and other organizations.
