Recognizing the benefits of global trade, many of the world's developing countries and countries with economies in transition, have sought to actively participate in the global trading regime. Recently, however, the undesirable effect of environmental degradation has emerged as a result of rapid increase in trade. These studies are part of series of United Nations Environment Programme that discusses the trade liberalization on their natural and environmental resources.
