About the product
The International Conference on Post-Conflict Reconstruction held in November 2002 in Hiroshima brought together over fifty scholars. The aim of the conference was to examine the long and difficult road to post-conflict reconstruction over a span of more than fifty years. Six countries were chosen as case studies: Japan, Republic of Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia, East Timor, and Afghanistan. This book includes all the papers presented at the meeting. It assesses the options and pitfalls of post war reconstruction, providing insights for those countries that are currently wrestling to rebuild their societies. The volume is a unique asset for experts and laypersons alike and is particularly relevant in these troubled times when so much is at stake in Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere in the world.
