About the product
Foreign and domestic investment in infrastructure and direct tourism-related development is quickly taking form in the Greater Mekong subregion (GMS) which has become more accessible and tourist friendly. The GMS includes Cambodia, China, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Viet Nam and Thailand. This publication presents a study on the tourist potential of the Mekong River for which the region is named. It surveyed six tourism segments along the River showing the distinct attractions of each segment based on varying interests in adventure, history, culture, nature and mode of transport. It also assesses current tourism development patterns, analyses the potential to expand travel to and within the GMS, and makes recommendations on ways to overcome existing impediments.
