The 1987 Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer followed the 1985 Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer and forms the basis of global cooperation for the protection of ozone in the stratosphere. There have been four meetings of the Parties to the protocol since 1989 and significant decisions have been taken and updated on implementing control measures against ozone depleting substances (ODS). The protocol has set phase out dates for the Parties for many of the most virulent ODS. This handbook covers the latest amendments to the Protocol and has annexes on the Vienna Convention.
