Examines the major implications of new technologies for developing countries and the role of transnational corporations in the transfer of such technologies. While major technological innovations have taken place in most production and service industries, the study concentrates on four new and emerging technologies which are likely to have the most extensive impact: electronic and informatics; biotechnology and genetic engineering; new materials; and new and renewable energy technologies.
