This paper summarizes the main results of a study on agrifood competitiveness in Central American and Caribbean countries sponsored by the government of Netherlands and carried out by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbeans’s (ECLAC) Agricultural Development Unit. The main purpose of the study was to identify possible trade opportunities and challenges facing the agrifood sector in the subregion’s countries, in a context of trade liberalization in the main import markets of the United States and the European Union (EU). The Central American and Caribbean countries considered in this study include: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Barbados, Belize, Cuba, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, and Trinidad and Tobago.
