About the product
This paper examines the anatomy of the pervasive current job cuts and job losses in multinational enterprises. It raises the question of social and economic costs to countries and workers, focusing mainly on Latin America and the Caribbean. The paper also documents multinational job cuts in the region for 2001, presenting them by sector, firm, and country, while discussing the inadequacy of data for understanding the magnitude and importance of job cut trends. Finally it examines the role of the national authorities in the face of growing multinational corporate activity, supporting policies aimed at protecting worker interests.
