This is the second issue of the United Nations Demographic Yearbook. In the first issue, current statistics related chiefly to 1947 and historical series ended with 1947. In the present volume, as a result of a forward shift in schedule, it has been possible to include data not only for 1948, but in many cases for 1949 as well.
