This publication reviews the demographic changes in population size and growth in the world and its urban and rural areas and looks at the changes in mortality, fertility and migration that underlie these changes. It also examines the population policies that Governments have adopted in response to their concerns with national aspects of population and development. The Concise Report also reviews the state of knowledge on the interrelationships of population with poverty, food and the environment.
