Biodiversity describes the diversity of life on Earth encompassing all species of plants, animals and micro-organisms, their genetic material and the ecosystems of which they are part. This volume describes the three fundamental categories of global biodiversity - genetic diversity, species diversity and ecosystem diversity. It discusses the effects of the loss of biodiversity threatening the extinction of animal, plant, fish species. This is the eleventh in the series of UNEP/GEM Environment Library.
