This wall chart features tables and graphics regarding urban agglomerations around the world in 2009. By the middle of 2009, the number of people living in urban areas (3.42 billion) had surpassed the number living in rural areas (3.41 billion). However, major disparities in the level of urbanization remain among development groups. The world urban population is expected to increase by 84 per cent in 2050, from 3.4 billion in 2009 to 6.3 billion in 2050. In addition to the wall chart, the results and analysis of the 2009 Revision will be issued in a working paper, in a report and on a CD-ROM.
