Sharing a border with Poland and Belarus, Lithuania has become a transit zone for irregular migrants heading towards the West. Based on interviews with non-CIS migrants apprehended while transiting Lithuania, this study sets out to understand why and how migrants from developing countries, especially those from South Asia and Africa, choose the Baltic route through Lithuania to the West. The publication reviews findings on migrants' profiles, their reasons for migration, their expectations, and the trafficking networks, transport systems and routes.
