This publication presents a detailed treatment of data editing methods and considerations pertaining to each. It examines the macro-editing methods as powerful tools for rationalizing the data review process through error detection at the aggregated level showing how significant savings can be achieved. The appropriate computerization of data editing is also discussed, focusing on software packages such as GEIS and DC2 (prepared in Statistics Canada) and BLAISE (developed in the Netherlands Central Bureau of Statistics).
