About the product
At its nineteenth special session in 1997, the General Assembly called for the initiation of a strategic approach for the implementation of all aspects of the sustainable use of fresh water for social and economic purposes, including safe drinking water and sanitation, water for irrigation, recycling, and wastewater management, and the important role fresh water plays in natural ecosystems. In that context, these guidelines were formulated aimed at assisting planners and decision makers in developing strategies to address the trade-offs and complementarities between policies on economic growth, social equity and environmental objectives.
