The Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer requires periodic assessments of available scientific, environmental, technical and economic information. This 2002 Assessment focuses on the following areas: changes in biologically active ultraviolet radiation reaching the Earth's surface and the effects of increased solar ultraviolet radiation on health, terrestrial ecosystems, aquatic ecosystems, air quality, materials and biogeochemical cycles. It also emphasizes the interaction between changes in the ozone layer and climatic changes.
