About the book

The need for the development of statistics and indicators on the situation of women has, for some time, been voiced in various global and regional forums. This publication will be extremely helpful to governments in their efforts to improve the status of women and to promote their full integration in development. Women and Men in the ESCAP Region provides comparable and analytical information on the situation of women and men in the countries of the Asia and the Pacific region. It covers six areas of concern: demographic aspects; families and households; health status; education and literacy; economic activity; and public life.
