Towards Sustainable Minerals Supply in the Asian and Pacific Region

Review of Emerging Mineral Policies and Development Activities

Format *
The sustainable supply of minerals which are non-renewable is of much concern for countries in the Asian and Pacific region and they have taken steps to reorient their national policies on mineral resource development. This publication highlights the need for new policy orientation and initiatives for mineral resource development, especially if foreign direct investment flows are to be harnessed. It focuses on two main areas: the background to the formulation of mineral policies that would be compatible with the efforts of countries to adopt market-oriented economic policies with a shift from centrally controlled economies; and the present status of mineral resource development in selected countries of the Asian and the Pacific region.
