About the product
Four years after the Rio Summit, only very limited progress is discernible in the implementation of the recommendations on financial issues contained in Agenda 21. The collection of papers contained in this book identify a number of policy approaches which could assist in meeting financial objectives of Agenda 21. They constitute a wide-ranging and up-to-date overview of policies and the experiences of various countries, both developed and developing; from international and regional organizations, from the private sector and from academia. It pays considerable attention to the potential role of the private sector in sustainable development, including the scope for public-private partnerships and more effective use of official development finance. It also explores approaches to mobilizing resources.
