South-South Cooperation in International Investment Arrangements

Format *
During the past decade, the number of international investment agreements among developing countries has increased substantially, pointing to growing South-South cooperation. Developing countries are actively signing international investment agreements among each other as tools to encourage and facilitate investment flows among themselves and are one aspect of South-South cooperation that aims to achieve developmental goals. This paper is part of a new Series on International Investment Policies for Development, which seeks to provide a balanced analysis of issues that may arise in the context of international approaches to investment rulemaking and their impact on development.
