The end of the Cold War has seen an important increase in the range and scope of United Nations peace operations. Some of these operations have encountered difficulty in fulfilling their tasks. One way proposed to alleviate this problem is through the use of technical means such as unattended ground-sensor systems, which allow for better monitoring of peace agreements. Sensors For Peace, examines the potential for the use of unattended ground-sensor systems in United Nations peace missions from operational, conceptual and juridical perspectives. Overall this potential is found to be both promising and realistic.
