Rubber and the Environment

Proceedings of the Joint Workshop of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and the International Rubber Study Group

Format *
This publication reviews two specific aspects of the cycle of rubber products. The first one, is the use of international instruments for making scrap tyre management as environmentally sound as possible. On this subject the publication presents a paper on the North American (U.S.A. and Canada) experience and lessons on encouraging sound scrap tyre management and a paper on the Malaysian experiences. The second aspect addressed, is the opportunities and constraints for international payments for carbon sequestration services to natural rubber producers to reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions and therefore combat climate change.
