The publication combines the reports of three committees: the Intergovernmental Consultative Committee Meeting, the Regional Working Groups and the Meeting of the Subcommittee on their discussions on Space Applications for Sustainable Development. The Committees evaluated the progress made in the past two years, reviewed the project profiles developed by the different task forces and study teams set up in 1997, and provided useful inputs into the concept paper on the preparations for the Ministerial Conference drafted by the ESCAP secretariat. Common to all meetings of the regional working groups was a session on technical presentations by experts on state-of-the-art space technology applications, which participants found to be extremely useful.
