Population Bulletin of the United Nations 2001

Living Arrangements of Older Persons - Special Issue

Format *
An inevitable consequence of the demographic transition and the shift to lower fertility and mortality has been the evolution in the age structure of the world population. Concerned by population ageing and a looming crisis, many Governments are promoting self-reliance in income security for older persons and greater family responsibility for providing care. This publication contains a collected set of papers that were presented at the Technical Meeting on Population Ageing and Living Arrangements of Older Persons. The papers examine demographic and policy dimensions of population ageing and living arrangement of older persons, living arrangements and the well-being of older persons in the past, living arrangements and family support, poverty, health and living arrangements of older persons, future research directions and methodological issues.
