This study is based on background papers presented at the Ad Hoc Expert Group Meeting on Migration and Development, held in Bangkok, Thailand, in November 2001. The main purposes of the meeting were to review migration trends and patterns in the region, examine the policies and programmes on migration and make specific recommendations to better manage migration flows. It is hoped that the results of this study will be useful for planners, policy makers and researchers.
