A challenge facing the countries of central and eastern Europe in transition towards market economies is the privatization of their enterprises. The aim of this Guide is to assist in that transition by establishing a suitable legal framework for privatization. It outlines the principal problems most likely to arise; the new laws and institutions; and the main methods that can be employed in the task of privatization. The Guide discusses the definition and aims of privatization and the industries and sectors concerned by that process.
