This study details how trade liberalization implemented along with structural adjustment policies in Argentina in the 1990s, led to unprecedented growth in the country’s fish industry. It indicates the positive, as well as negative impacts of this growth on Argentina's environment,economy and social situation. In conclusion, the study points out the importance of regulating trade and of avoiding trade-distorting practices within the fisheries sector. It also recommends several policy approaches that aim at curtailing the negative impacts of trade liberalization, at the same time harnessing the most economic benefits possible.
