Health Rationale for Family Planning, The

Timing of Births and Child Survival

Format *
Utilizing data from 25 countries, this study examines the relations between fertility and child survival in the 1980s and formulates policy guidelines based on more recent findings. The first part of the study assesses the excess risks of child mortality associated with child-bearing too early or with short intervals between births. The second part examines how far the differences observed are affected by a range of controls, such as mother's education, father's occupation and place of residence.
