Guide to the Archives of the League of Nations

Format *
The League of Nations was for a long time considered as the laboratory of the United Nations and a necessary stage, which gave structure to the concept of an international organization and organized twentieth century internationalism. It was in official existence from 10 January 1920, the date of entry of the Treaty of Versailles, to 18 April 1946, the date on which the League was dissolved. This publication offers a guided tour of the archive of material that serves as a preservation of the League's history and memory, stored at the Library of the Geneva Office. It discusses the archive and how it can be used with the hope that it will prove to be useful to researchers interested in the League's activities during the years 1919-1946, and the complexities of international relations and the international organizations of today.
