Stocks of fissile materials have accrued transnationally due to armament and disarmament processes, as well as to civil uses of nuclear power. However, little is known in the public domain about the nature, size and whereabouts of such stocks, and the complexities surrounding their regulation and control. This report addresses this issue by providing factual background information on all of these important matters. It categorizes and quantifies fissile material stocks and examines the measures, which have here-to-fore been developed regarding their control and management. The report also includes an overview of broad policy options available to States in addressing the stocks issue.
