Facilitating the Accession of ESCAP Developing Countries to WTO through Regional Cooperation

This report is adopted from The Regional Seminar on Facilitating the Accession of Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) Developing Countries to the World Trade Organization (WTO), held from 18 - 21 February 2002 in Bangkok, Thailand. The objective of the seminar was to share experiences among ESCAP developing countries in the process of WTO accession and to draw lessons from them. This report highlights the main issues discussed. It is divided into three main sections; the first is a summary of conclusions and recommendations from the seminar; the second explains the current status of the WTO accession process and the experience of ESCAP acceding countries; while the third section examines the application forms of the following ESCAP countries: Bhutan, Cambodia, Fiji, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Mongolia, Nepal, Thailand, Tonga and Vanuatu.
