About the book
This is a technical report that provides an overview of both large-scale and small-scale mining and their potential impacts on the environment with measures to reduce this impact. Possible sources of contaminants are identified, as are the risks from closure of mines and abandoned sites. Control technologies and protection of the working environment are reviewed. The final sections deal with aspects of environmental planning, policy development and establishment of management and control systems. Technical annexes give further details on acid mine drainage, airborne contaminants, the working environment and regulatory requirements.
