Development of Asia-Europe Rail Container Transport through Block-trains

Northern Corridor of the Trans-Asian Railway

Format *
This publication presents valuable guidelines for the development of efficient rail services along the routes of the Trans-Asian Railway Northern Corridor (TAR-NC). It highlights those components of the services that should receive specific attention to be able to attract shippers and keep their loyalty. The publication describes the routes forming the Trans-Asian Railway (TAR), evaluates current container traffic between North/Northeast Asia and Europe and looks at the potential distribution of volumes along the different routes making up TAR-NC. The book reviews also the criteria by which shippers/freight forwarders will decide to commit their goods to rail instead of ocean carriers and proposes a series of guidelines to build up credibility and capacity to adapt quickly to economic changes and to the customers' needs.
