Aspects of Transition

Format *
This publication presents essays addressing the core problem of the form, pace and character of the relationship that is evolving between the general world trading system and the countries of Eastern and Central Europe and the former Soviet Union. The studies approach this question from diverse analytical perspectives, in some cases looking to historical examples of the dissolution of other economic-political systems. In other cases the focus is on the analysis of comparative performance in the transition period itself. Others address the specific policy and conduct of various entities, in particular the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, but also the specialized agencies such as United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and Food Agricultural Organization (FAO).
