The Development of International Passenger Rail Transport (Russian language)

Формат *
International rail passenger transport is of fundamental importance to the movement of people across borders in the ECE region, a central role that was highlighted in Inland Transport Committee Resolution No. 264. The status of the development of international rail passenger transport is thus considered here in the context of ITC Resolution No. 264 and COVID-19, which offers, beyond its negative economic impacts, the opportunity to reconsider the role of rail transport in the ECE region and further its promotion in the post-pandemic recovery. As joint efforts are evidently needed, the current focus on sustainability in the region’s transport sector may offer the opportunity to national, international and private stakeholders to support rail transport development with a focus on intermodality. In turn, a seamless, more efficient and attractive network must be facilitated by the creation and implementation of appropriate legal instruments at a pan-European level.
